What can we screen for?

Our tests screen for Trisomies, Deletions og Sex Chromosome Aneuploidies

Trisomy is when you have an extra chromosome, Deletion is when a chromosome part is missing,

Sex Chromosome Aneuploidies refers to anomalies in the X and Y chromosome. 

You can do Gender analysis if you wish.

Above you see a chromosome chart an important element in the screening. Most humans have 23 chromosome pairs.

Chromosome 23 is either XX or XY and defines Gender.  

Trisomies

Trisomy

 

Trisomies is a condition where there is 3 instead of 2 chromosomes. Trisomy 13  and 18, Pataus and Edwards Syndrome, are severe abnormalities that may jeopardize survival of the child. Trisomy 21, Downs Syndrome, is less severe with varying consequences.

Sex Chromsome Aneuploidies

​

A woman usually has an XX - chromosome setup and a man an XY - setup.  However this setup can be disturbed, for instance XXY, or a XYY combination and this is called a Sex Chromosome Aneuploidies. Sex Chromosome Aneuploidies usually cause challenges related to fertility, and sometimes cognitive challenges.
